While leaving the murder scene of
a young woman, Nick, Nat and Schanke
discuss the possibility that she
may have been killed by the man she
met through a dating service. Schanke
ponders why such an attractive woman
would even need a dating service.
As Natalie gets in her car, she tells
him it's the nineties, and being
so busy with her job, she had considered
it herself. Schanke asks why she
and Nick don't date each other. Natalie
dodges the question and drives off,
leaving Nick to come up with an answer.
"Who's got the time?" is his lame
reply.

It's Natalie's thirtieth birthday
and she's surprised with a small
party given by her friends at the
morgue. Along with the party comes
a special gift that she's encouraged
to try on. Later, Nat goes home
to her lonely apartment, greeted
by her cat, Sidney. When she realizes
that Sidney is out of cat food,
Nat makes a trip to the local market.
Meanwhile, Nick, having realized
that it's Natalie's birthday, goes
out to buy her some flowers.

Coming out of the store with a
bag full of groceries, Natalie
bumps into Roger Jamieson, accidentally
giving him a bloody nose. She offers
him her scarf to wipe away the
blood, then he begins making small
talk, showing more than just a
casual interest in her. While they're
talking, Nick happens along. However,
feeling as though he's intruding,
he gives Nat the flowers and a
card, then quickly departs, leaving
Natalie feeling somewhat forlorned.
Roger, however, is quick to pick
up on her loneliness and offers
her the attention she had wanted
from Nick.

The following day, Nat goes on
a luncheon date with Roger. The
date lasts all afternoon, which
causes Nick to worry when he can't
get in touch with her. Natalie
is surprised to find him in her
apartment when she arrives with
Roger. Nick takes on a very jealous
and possessive air in the presence
of Roger who deems it best to leave
right away. As soon as the new
man in Nat's life is gone, Nick
chastises her for going out with
someone she barely knows. Later,
at the morgue, Nick apologizes
to Nat for spoiling her date with
Roger. He tells her that he doesn't
want to get in the way of her happiness,
obviously not having a clue as
to what or who could really make
her happy.

When Natalie accepts another date
with Roger, he takes her to the
flower nursery where he works.
The place is closed for business.
so they have it all to themselves.
When Nick stops off at the morgue,
Grace tells him about the DNA tests
that were done in connection with
the "date killer." She informs
him that a blood sample from Roger
Jamieson had been included in the
testing and that his DNA matches
what was found on the murder victims.
Meanwhile, Roger is getting a bit
too aggressive with Nat to the
point where she fears for her life.
She runs from him but trips and
falls, knocking herself unconscious.

After seeing a flower box at Nat's
apartment and knowing that the
killer possibly drove a flower
delivery van, Nick figures out
where Roger has taken Nat. He flies
there at top speed and in full
vampire mode, makes quick work
of Roger before the man can do
anymore harm to Nat. Nick takes
a sobbing and very frightened Natalie
in his arms to comfort her. Later,
at the precinct, Nick tells Nat
how worried he was about her. He's
tempted to kiss her in more than
a brotherly fashion, but Natalie
apparently decides she's had it
with romance for now. She subtly
diverts her lips away from his,
and Nick settles for a simple kiss
to her forehead, reestablishing
their chaste, but loving relationship.
