Storyboard #8 - Part 5

At Nick's loft, Fenner has rendered Alyce unconscious and is ready to go after Jeanie, his original target. Jeanie grabs a broom, lights it in the fireplace and uses it to fend off her attacker. Fenner knocks the broom out of her hand, spreading the fire across the floor. As he continues to advance upon her, a vamped out Nick arrives, crashing through the skylight above. He grabs Fenner and flings him high into the air where he crashes hard against the wall.

Jeanie is stunned by Nick's physical appearance, but doesn't question it as his features return to normal and he encourages her to leave the burning building. Nick then checks on Alyce. Just as she is regaining consciousness, a crashing sound and a man's scream draw their attention to LaCroix as he drains the blood from Fenner and tosses his lifeless body to the floor.

LaCroix tells Nick that steel spikes can't kill a vampire but that fire can. He then points out that Nick looks weak and asks him when's the last time he fed. Realizing that Nick is in need of blood, Alyce offers herself to him and even asks that he make her immortal. Nick is sorely tempted but manages to refuse to drink from her. Instead, he goes after LaCroix.

Knowing that Nick is too weak to fly, LaCroix takes to the air and taunts him from above. Nick breaks apart an easel and uses the wooden pole as a weapon. He swings wildly at his nemesis but misses. LaCroix knocks him to the floor and Nick loses consciousness.

Alyce makes a vain attempt of attacking LaCroix, but he easily overpowers her and drains her blood. Nick awakens just in time to witness her demise. He picks up a flaming, wooden pole and rams it into LaCroix's body with enough momentum to lift him upwards and pin him to the wall where the fire begins to consume him.

As Nick looks on with an air of sadness, LaCroix's body begins to melt before his eyes. After watching the destruction of his master, Nick mourns the vampire's last victim as he stands amidst the burning loft.

The fire department arrives along with Schanke and Jack who help Jeanie from the burning building. Later, at the museum, Nick has donated his own Jade cup for display. He and Jack discuss Alyce and her desire to become immortal, and Nick's desire to become mortal again. As they leave the museum, they're joined by Schanke who presents Nick with the keys to his newly restored Caddie. As they check out the car, Schanke lights up a cigarette. "Those cigarettes," says Jack disapprovingly, "fastest way into a coffin, uh Nick?" "One of them anyway," Nick agrees.

Well, actually, it was just the beginning.
